Elizabeth Rowe discusses how epidemics repeatedly struck the isolated community of Iceland in the later Middle Ages, and contemporary annals record them in ways that range from the horrifying to the humorous.

Elizabeth Rowe is Reader in Scandinavian Studies and Fellow of Clare Hall at the University of Cambridge. She is currently finishing a translation of the medieval annals of Iceland. Click here to learn more about her research.
