This Irish fortress was built around 1480, and comes with two-and-a-half acres of land, with the Ballyfinboy river forming the boundary to the north.
The castle is located about a mile from Borrisokane; and near Lough Derg and Killaloe, which are on the River Shannon just 12 minutes drive from Nenagh from where there is access to the N7 main Dublin/Limerick Road. Limerick City and Shannon Airport are also within easy commuting distance.
Now in a state of ruins, Ballyfinboy Castle was built by the O’Kennedy Clan at the end of the fifteenth-century. There is an original carving of a Sheila NaGig on the south east corner about 5 metres above the ground.
The first recorded mention of the castle was when it was captured in 1599. The owner Phillip Kennedy and defenders were all put to the sword and the castle left indefensible. In the 19th century the castle was described as being a ruin in a good state of preservation.
