Pair of medieval paintings acquired by The Louvre

The Louvre has added to its medieval treasures with the acquisition of two rare paintings by the Italian artist Pietro Lorenzetti.

The works are believed to depict saints Zacharias and Elizabeth—parents of Saint John the Baptist—and were originally part of a polyptych created in the 1330s or 1340s.
