Introduction: All that rve know of Henry Clement is that he was a clerk and messenger of the justiciar of Ireland, Maurice fitzGerald, and that he was murdered in the spring of 1235 in Westminster. The crime caused a sensation.  Better men of his time have left no memorial; Henry Clement has a certain fame because of the manner of his death.
