The 5th International Conference on the Military History of the Mediterranean Sea will take place in Istanbul, Turkey, from 11–13 June 2027. Hosted by Ibn Haldun University at the Süleymaniye Salis Medrese, the conference will bring together scholars working on warfare and military history across the Mediterranean world.
The conference will examine warfare in the Mediterranean from the early Middle Ages through the Early Modern period (c. 1700), with particular attention to how different aspects of warfare changed over time. The event is an international collaboration between scholars from Turkey and Greece and is intended to encourage discussion across different areas of Mediterranean military history.
Proposals are welcome on a range of subjects, including medieval battlefields and battlefield archaeology, primary sources, military obligations, strategy and tactics, siege warfare, logistics, naval warfare, societies at war, the treatment of the defeated, and military leadership.
The deadline for proposals is 30 December 2026. Applicants should submit an abstract of no more than 250 words along with a brief CV to [email protected] or [email protected]. The conference fee is €100, which includes lunch and coffee as well as a conference dinner.
