Where the Middle Ages Begin

‘Caris Wooler, your spirit and heart are all that I love of England. If I am still King tomorrow, I will grant your petition.’

In this week’s episode, Edward III goes to war against France in 1334. Meanwhile, bridge building under Merthin’s guidance begins. Gwenda has Ralph’s baby, Caris and Mother Cecilia fight for their hospital and Godwyn continues to plot and scheme as Prior.

After the bridge collapse, Caris helps the wounded and hopes to open a hospital. Godwyn schemes to become Prior following the suspicious drowning of Prior Anthony. King Edward III declares war on France, and the Hundred Years’ War begins.

On this week’s World Without End, we see Caris marry abusive Elfric and Ralph’s fateful meeting with Annet that lands him in the stocks….

There was a lot packed into this first episode and although there were some graphic scenes to keep people glued to their screens, the opening episode really wasn’t engaging me and keeping my interest.

The latest medieval drama is set to air this fall on television screens: World Without End, an adaptation of Ken Follett’s international best-selling novel set amidst natural disaster, plague, and war in 14th century England.
