Where the Middle Ages Begin

What could the Byzantine Empire offer to Great Moravia in the field of education? Let’s leave aside the political and theological aspects of the mission for a while and point out, that Byzantium complied with Rastislav’s request out of political reasons as well. They considered Great Moravia a possible ally.

In this paper I would like to explain the term medieval manuscript, how and in what environment manuscripts came to existence and what their value was.

This study will examine in particular the reactions of the people living close to the Danube River and its catchment area in “Austria” between the 14th and 17th centuries.

On the one hand, stories (particularly fables) have been de- rived from already existing proverbs, from antiquity up to early modern times. On the other hand, a story in its summarised form can live on in a proverb or an idiom, even if the knowledge of this story has been forgotten for a long time.

Medieval medicine as a scientific discipline was constituted generally in the 11th and 12th century on the basis of Latin translations of Arabic and Greek medical texts.

During the eleventh and twelfth centuries, the legend of Charlemagne gained widespread popularity, as the figure of the emperor became a model for rulers and crusaders.

Apparently before lunch there was a slight spat between the archbishops about who should sit on the king’s right, but the king wisely calmed the quarrel.

The spread and use of firearms was a common problem in early modern Europe, and the Kingdom of Bohemia was no exception.
