How to have a Medieval Hairstyle – Part 2

Janet Stephens has recreated a second hairstyle based on 14th century art. This style belonged to a medieval Tuscan midwife as was depicted by Paolo di Giovanni Fei (1344-1411) in his Birth of the Virgin Mary.

Excerpt: “This style can be easily done by the wearer herself. Comb all the hair back and high onto the crown. Create a three-strand braid all the way to the tips of the hair. Coil the braid around the high crown and secure it with short bodkins. Take the head wrap and lay one end over the left shoulder. Drape the wrap over head. Now twist the right end of the wrap as you pass it under the chin and up toward the crown.”
