Earlier this year, as part of the demonstration of Minelab’s CTX 3030 treasure detector to Vinkovci Municipal Museum archaeologists, Minelab prospectors Richard Lincoln and Gordon Heritage discovered the multiple hoards around three archaeological sites in the eastern part of the country. In total they uncovered 106 bronze and silver Celtic coins from 100 B.C., two silver Apollonian coins, a silver Roman denarius of Antoninus Pius minted around 211 B.C., multiple bronze Roman coins, 39 coins from the 13th and 14th century minted during the rule of Holy Roman Emperor King Sigismund and Queen Maria of Luxemburg, Hungary and Croatia, as well as a unique silver Celtic double ended toggle fastener, two 15th century rings, a Neolithic stone hammer and a Roman fibulae, a popular brooch crafted between the 1st and 4th century A.D.

“We have used metal detectors before whilst conducting field surveys, but the Minelab CTX 3030 has helped us take our excavations even further,” said Hrvoje Vulic, head archaeologist of Vinkovci Municipal Museum. “I’m certain that in the future, far more sites will be found and protected based on prospecting efforts made with the CTX 3030, a machine I’d strongly recommend to every archaeologist interested in doing field survey.”

“We are proud that our products were key tools in discovering these ancient Croatian hoards, as well as a means in protecting archeological sites for further exploration,” said Gary Schafer, General Manager of Worldwide Consumer Markets and of America’s Operations for Minelab Electronics. “By learning the expansive capabilities of our CTX 3030 model, Vinkovci Municipal Museum archaeologists will be able to continue the expedition to uncover even more treasure.”

Minelab’s CTX 3030 treasure detector is all-terrain and waterproof in up to 10 ft. Equipped with a full color LCD screen and advanced Target Tracediscrimination, the CTX 3030 GPS allows treasure hunters to navigate to specific locations and to record exact locations of their discoveries. With five preset search modes and many automatic functions, the model is intuitive for beginner treasure hunters while providing advanced features for experienced detectorists.
