Publisher’s Description: A compilation of essays from the English Historical Fiction Authors blog, this book provides a wealth of historical information from Roman Britain to early twentieth century England. Over fifty different authors share hundreds of real life stories and tantalizing tidbits discovered while doing research for their own historical novels. From Queen Boadicea’s revolt to Tudor ladies-in-waiting, from Regency dining and dress to Victorian crime and technology, immerse yourself in the lore of Great Britain. Read the history behind the fiction and discover the true tales surrounding England’s castles, customs, and kings.

From Medievalists.net: This is an interesting collection of short essays, most of them about 2 to 4 pages long, that cover everything from Boadicea to Downton Abbey. Dozens of the essays deal with medieval people and topics, including: ‘Henry II and Thomas Becket’, ‘How Joan of Kent Became Princess of Wales’, ‘Dinner As It Might Have Been at Kenilworth 760 Years Ago’ and ‘Miniature Cathedrals: England’s Market Crosses’. Since each essay is only a few pages long, you can read them quickly and also jump around the book, picking which topics you would be interested in. Moreover, the writing is really wonderful – over fifty authors contribute to his collection, and you can tell how a story, crafted by a professional author, can really come alive.
