“Want to joust?” Medievalists.net talks to champion jouster Shane Adams about his love of the sport and life on the road as a full time jouster

On June 11th, we were able to make the five hour trek out to Upper Canada Village near Ottawa, Ontario to attend a medieval festival. We also had the opportunity to chat with Shane Adams and James Fairclough of History Television’s Full Metal Jousting.

Replete with re-enactors, jousting, workshops, vendors and medieval military displays, the festival had something for everyone. The festival was a three day affair June 9th, 10th and 11th with the final day being an educational day for school groups where they are encouraged to spend the day learning about life in the Middle Ages.

The Knights of Valour, Shane Adams professional jousting group, put on a spectacular show in the scorching heat. We had the chance to meet James Fairclough, a contestant from the Red Team on Full Metal Jousting. He took time to speak to fans, sign autographs and pose for pictures. James was kind enough to take time out after the joust to talk to us about his experiences on Full Metal Jousting and what will be in store for him now that the show has wrapped.

Shane Adams, champion jouster and executive producer of Full Metal Jousting, took time out of his busy schedule to speak to us about his passion for jousting, share his memories of the show and tell people who are interested in jousting how they can join the sport.
