Abstract: This study aims to identify the characteristics of Westem and Islarnic manuscripts (MSS) which would enlighten the presentation of bibliographic data of such MSS. The characteristics of Westem and Islarnic MSS are examined and compared in order to determine the similarities and differences which may affect bibliographic data presentation. Although there are some differences and similarities between the Westem and Islamic MSS, same cataloguing code can be used for both MSS to present related bibliographic data on catalogue records. However, cataloguing rules are not just about the standard format of bibliographic data presentation. So the daim for sufficiency (or insufficiency) of existing codes which were originated in the West for Islarnic MSS requires some evidenee and it is necessary to undertake further researeh for adaptation of West originated standards for Islamic MSS.
