Introduction: This chapter is a bibliographical survey of studies written by German speaking researchers that examine the relationship between the Mendicant Orders and certain aspects of urban life. The first part concentrates on the Dominicans, while the second briefly addresses the question as to whether German speaking historians in other European countries are also doing research work on Mendicant Orders (especially Franciscans and Dominicans) and urban life. Due to the limited space available, I have focused on selected examples and also indicated Internet resources which will allow the discovery of more exhaustive bibliographies. As research on the Mendicant Orders should be seen in a wider context, some indications of general literature and sources are also given.
