The fabrication of medieval history: archaeology and artifice at the Office of Works
By Simon Thurley
Lecture given on October 31, 2007
Synopsis: Examines how English historians and archaeologists have dealt with the preservation of historical buildings since the late 19th century. Early views of these buildings, including castles and abbeys, underwent various interpretations, which are now being questioned. The lecture examines how efforts to preserve medieval buildings has changed in recent years as well as the current work by English Heritage in this regard.
